XLAB research and development focus are various distributed systems with emphasis on the GRID computing, distributed multi agent technologies and P2P systems. “XLAB Research” is involved in multiple FP6/7 and national projects. We are mainly active in the integration of the existing GRID solutions and P2P protocols with extension of agent technologies. High emphasis is also put to the network level software development, user interface R&D, control and library development.

XLAB has researched and developed technology, which is based on highly distributed algorithms and provides transport and manipulation layer for various media streams.

Currently we have five post-graduate students (2 PhD, 3 Master thesis) in the area of GRID computing, P2P systems, Multi-agent technologies, media (content analysis).

Selected FP6/7 projects:

  • XtreemOS – Building and Promoting a Linux-based Operating System to Support Virtual Organizations for Next Generation Grids.
  • DeDiSys – dependable distributed systems, IST-2003. Goal of the project is to evaluate trade-off between availability and constraint consistency in distributed systems. XLAB participate as research and development partner on GRID platforms.
  • Mosaica – Semantically Enhanced, Multifaceted, Collaborative Access to Cultural Heritage.

Selected national research projects:

  • Interactive visualization of flooding areas to support urgent actions
  • Computational Grid for Higher Utilization of Computational Resources in Organizations
  • Quantitative tracking of regional function and Telenuclearmedicine development, 2004-2007– applicative project, financed by Research Agency and Ministry of Health
  • GRID distributed resource directory, 2003-2005
  • GRID computational services, 2004-2006.

Development in support of research projects

  • InstFinder -- a web mining/machine learning application for resolving researcher affiliation
  • GRIDy – envelopment framework for Globus
  • Utopia – P2P simulation engine
  • Felix – Flexible and self-healing distributed simulation execution framework.

Development projects:

  • xISL – P2P communicational solution.
