Jobs and Employment

XLAB is looking for an early-stage researcher (ESR) for research on grid and cluster storage systems within the "SCALUS" Marie Curie initial training network. We offer full-time employment for a fixed duration of three years. The main goal of the research is to implement a Grid-wide platform for computations on large datasets, integrating results of other researchers within the SCALUS project. The researcher will be encouraged to publish the results in scientific papers and may, if so desired, choose to pursue a Ph.D..

The candidates must be within the first four years of their career, starting with the date of obtaining their BSc or MSc degrees. The job location is in Ljubljana, Slovenia, but visits to partners in the project (all within the European Community) are planned, in particular to the UPC in Barcelona.

More information on the project, eligibility and other details can be found at www.scalus.eu/jobs (ESR 15) or by mail to .

Working in XLAB

Would you like to:

  • Work on international research projects?
  • Develop new technologies that will be sold worldwide?
  • Be a software engineer using advanced technologies?
  • Cooperate with top scientists and engineers from European and other countries?
  • Work in youthful, highly motivated, smaller project teams?

Do you prefer the above to becoming a sales engineer or developing simple business applications and writing SQL queries? Do you prefer working in a dynamic, flexible environment to being part of a rigid hierarchy in a large software company?

If you also:

  • can solve difficult problems and finish projects with little supervision,
  • have a technical or natural sciences background such as computer science, electrical engineering or mathematics,
  • are experienced in some high-level programming language,
  • know the basics of computer networking and systems programming,
  • are good in written and spoken English
  • and, most importantly, are able and willing to learn new technologies quickly,

contact us or send a CV to and we will try to find the optimal form of cooperation.

Working Environment

We are aware that the only real assets of our company company are its people. We know that every good employee is important and hard to replace. Therefore we strive to build a fun, flexible and democratic environment, including

  • student work, possibly converging into long-term cooperation,
  • full-time or part-time employment,
  • flexible working hours,
  • an atmosphere where everybody is valued for her/his individual contribution to the accomplishment of our mission and has an opportunity to reach her/his fullest potential.

Education and young researchers

People in high-tech companies never cease to learn and this will be your obligation as well. If, apart from learning new technologies as you work, you also wish to upgrade your formal education, XLAB also encourages you to work on MSc and PhD degrees and actively participates in coordination between the subject of your thesis and the projects you are working on, in cooperation with the Faculty of Computer and Information Science. In particular we are looking for young researcher candidates (for more information, see the Young researcher programme of the Slovenian Research Agency).
